This is the latest app available from The Cat in the Hat learning Library. I don’t know about you but I am a huge fan of this collection of books.  Indeed my son has the full collection on his bookshelf. I love that we can now take some of the titles easily with us on the go on our family iPad.

What I love most about these titles is that that they are a fantastic introduction to non-fiction books for young/early readers.  The subject matter is not too technical but yet is very informative.  My son loves non-fiction and learning and repeating interesting nuggets of information to us at all times.  Don’t you just love young curious minds – sort of what The Cat in the Hat is all about I think
There is a choice of a “read to me” or “read it myself” feature.  Highlighted narration is used in the read to me version.

Any word in bold is further explained to the user by touching the word and a pop up box appears with a complete definition. This is very helpful in expanding vocabulary.  If the user touches any word not in bold the wor
d is instantly highlighted in red text and is repeated.
The user can also touch parts of the illustration to see what  further animation takes place. In the first frame for instance pets are boarding The Cat in the Hat’s bus  - there are cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs - if they are touched the animal name is highlighted and spoken.   This is a really nice feature for reinforcing learning.

More pet animals are introduced over the next several pages and the animation gets even more fun and interesting as they are depicted playing typical pet games!  As the story develops there is a visit to a pet diner, an explanation on what pets eat, a guest spot experience on a television show, an explanation on pet safety & pet care, a visit to a pet shelter and a visit to a veterinary clinic.  A fantastic entertaining and educational story!

If you are familiar with other wonderful apps by Oceanhouse Media you will know the quality of their apps and Oh, The Pets You Can Get does not fail to deliver either. You won’t be disappointed. Highly recommend.

Other titles in this series are:

A Whale of a Tale: All about Porposies, Dolphins & Whales
Oh Say Can You Say Di-no-saur
Ice Is Nice: All About the North and South Poles
There’s No Place Like Space!: All About Our Soar System.
