Eye Paint Animals is not your ordinary colouring app. With a user friendly interface this app uses the camera on your iPad to add colour and texture to your child's creations.
Instead of a colour palette you simply tap the area you want to colour and your camera will capture that area from your surroundings.
I absolutely love this concept. My kids adore using the camera on their iPads and using it in this way encourages them to explore the environment they are in, in a more focused detail then they usually would.
Your child is able to either *paint* a whole area with a tap of the camera icon or use the *brush* option to add different images to a single area.
Curious Hat are committed to creating "Innovative and interactive applications for mobile devices that stimulate children to explore and experience the real world" They have definitely succeeded with this app.
My 9 year old son who has ASD created the picture to the right. He actually *played* with the app for almost an hour. He typically hates colouring apps as he has poor fine motor skills and finds them extremely tiresome. This app allows him to colour and create using a medium he is comfortable with.
My only wish would be to see some images aimed at older children added as although the animations are brilliant and of high quality they are aimed at a younger age group.
Overall, I think this is a fantastic app with a unique concept that has a ton of potential. If your child loves photography or just creating something that has a personal touch, Eye Paint is a must have for your iPad.
For a limited time you can download this app for free from the App Store, but it's usual price tag of 99c still makes it a great value addition to your app collection.
