Description

Reading, writing, listening and speaking, viewing and representing.

Literacy contains the education-approved handwriting fonts used in all UK, US, Australia and New Zealand schools.

Literacy is 'open scaffold' by design. A toolkit that simply delivers.

Create your own lessons (scrolling sentences using our 'Hold and Scroll' approach) with sounds, images and text and have the students respond via writing or recording audio.

Literacy comes packed with example lessons and Whiteboard activities that demonstrate the flexibility of the app. Literacy takes full advantage of the available technologies within the iPad.

Completed lessons can be automatically emailed to the teacher or parent with the student’s tracings and recordings included.

The ‘Whiteboard’ section allows a teacher to draw or import images, with unique audio instructions for tracing or interacting with.

Literacy relies on the ability of the teacher or parent to review the student's work and provide recognition and reward for good work or effort, so the ‘bells and whistles’ are kept to a minimum. This evaluation is assisted with features such as the ‘Reset’ button having a counter; traces that are not automatically erased after the app is closed and traces that can be 'replayed'.

Create, save and share your own word lessons, and profiles, with complete control over the management of the lessons, the app and student profiles. Full import and export functions are included for iPad classrooms including Bluetooth file transfers, save and share via email, web, dropbox and iTunes.

Lock the app into a restricted student mode. In student mode, word lessons cannot be created or deleted and profiles cannot be changed. Other options are available depending on your choices. These include access to the settings and access to any external links.

AppAbles Opinion -

Literacy by Demografix is the perfect example of how an iPad can be incorporated into your child's education. This app includes fonts for UK, US, Australia and New Zealand schools. It is also an app that compliments  the school curriculum perfectly.
Literacy has a ton of content and you really need to take the time to do the tutorials and watch a couple of video links on their web site to get the most out of it. It's well worth this small amount of homework!
This app is perfect for our SN kiddies especially seeing it offers the option of recording your child's answer instead of writing it. Great for students who can't or find it difficult to write. As well as this each lesson has the instructions written in text AND the option of listening to audio instructions instead of reading.
Totally customisable, Literacy has a heap of built in lessons but these are merely a way of showing you what the app is capable of. You can add, edit or create lessons to suit your child or student. This app is perfect for teaching reading, writing, listening and has built in lessons using the all important Dolch site words lists up to Yr 3.
Although I usually like to see some sort of visual or audio reinforcement of correct or incorrect answers in an app this app can be excused for the simple reason that is designed to be used as a teaching tool and relies on the teacher or parent to check and either praise or correct the child's work. It does however have a new must have on my educational app list which is the reporting function where the completed work can be emailed to the appropriate person. This is an essential for children like my son who use the iPad in the classroom as one of the teachers main concerns is having a copy for assessments and proof of progress.
My advice is to read the iTunes description, watch the videos and see everything this app has to offer. I for one am as impressed as I was with Demografix's other two apps I use, Ghost Typing and School Writing. Any app that can help my children stay on task and appeals to their unique learning style is a must have and at $3.99 this one has longevity and is excellent value for money. Can't wait to see what Demografix come up with next!
